The Book Thief by Cinda Williams Chima
Summary: In Nazi Germany Liesel is adopted by Hans Hubbermann and Rosa Hubbermann. When her mother takes her and her younger brother to the family, her brother dies. Liesel wants to learn to read, and takes to thievery. Hence the name, "The Book Thief".
Recommendation: Anyone who wants a very good read should read this book. I don't like historical fiction, but I LOVED this book. Just be prepared to cry. A lot.

Demon King By: Cinda Williams Chima
Hans Allister AKA Cuffs AKA Hunts Alone is just trying to get by. He left the life of streetlord in order to protect his family. Hans is poor as dirt, and the only thing he has that is worth any value he can't get rid of. He has two thick cuffs on his wrists that he has had for as long as he can remember. He has been everywhere he can think of, but no one can get them off. To make matters worse, he's wanted for something he didn't do.
At the same time, Princess Raisa is getting ready to turn sixteen. After her name day, she will be eligible for marriage, but isn't sure if that's what she wants. She is a descendant of Queen Hanalea who defeated the Demon King years ago, and started the Grey Wolf line.
Recommendations: I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an interesting read. It is very gripping, and I couldn't put it down. Definitely a fantasy book, but it has some traces of metaphorical situations that make you think about your own life.
Rating: I would rate this book an 9. It is good, but Chima could have written it better. The storyline is fantastic, but there were some parts that you have to reread or think about to truly grasp what's happening

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan
Jason Grace has no clue who he is, or where he is. He turns up on a bus with no memory of who he is with Piper McLean and Leo Valdez. They are on a field trip and go to a school for "bad kids". Piper can convince people to give her things, but everyone claims she steals them. Leo Valdez has lost his parents, and has been in fosters homes ever since. When they get to the Grand Canyon they are attacked! What will happen now? Will Jason ever get his memory back?
Recommendations: This is a good book for anyone. It's the type of book that can be enjoyed by all! Fantastic read, Riordan truly delivers.
Rating: I would rate this story an 8. It is a great book for young and old, but I was looking for more of a challenge and this book was not a challenge.

Cinder by Marrisa Meyer
Cinder is a spin off of Cinderella. It is a very loose one, but it is still there.Cinder is a cyborg whose father has died, and is left with the classic step mother and step sisters. One sister though, is nicer to Cinder than in the original. Cinder is a mechanic, and one day the prince comes to her asking for his android to be fixed. Now she is wrapped up in something she never sees coming. The Lunars are looking to integrate themselves among the humans, and the plague is threatening to destroy everyone. What will Cinder do?
Recommendations: I would recommend this to 12 and up. You could read it younger, however to enjoy it to its full potential you should be older so that you understand the background stories. Very good book, but almost too predictable. This is a Sci-Fi, and Fantasy.

Warrior's Heart by Eric Greitens
This book is about a Navy Seal. Eric Greitens wrote an autobiography, and this is a young adult version. I do not like war, I am a peace activist, but this book was very good. Unlike some books that involve the Armed Forces, that is not the only focus in this book. This book is about Eric who at first has no interest in joining the arm. He just wants to make a difference in the world. Eric does some humanitarian work in high school. He sees the problems in the world, and wants to be a part of the solution. He sees becoming a SEAL a way to do this. You are only in the training for the last, at most, 50 pages.
Recommendations: I would recommend this to any middle schooler. It is very good, and inspirational.

Artemis Fowl By Eoin Colfer
Artemis Fowl is a 12 year old criminal mastermind. He has pulled of more successful heists than most career criminals. He has a loyal body guard, Butler, who is his best friend and confidant. He has discovered the existence of fairies, and is out to get their gold. Fowl kidnaps a fairy, and takes her captive. While bargaining with the fairies he also must care for his delusional mother. Artemis's father is missing and his mother is sick and delusional with worry. Will he be able to get his gold and save his mother? Has he finally bitten off more than he can chew?
Recommendations: This is a very well written book. It is fantasy/sci-fi, but a very well mixed concoction. Eoin Colfer is another one of my favorite authors who has also written a book called, "The Supernaturalist". I would recommend this to any young adult reader who enjoys watching their world questioned. This book brings up questions about humans, and "make believe" creatures. Enjoy!
